The County of Maui Office of Economic Development (OED) is pleased to announce the opening of the Round 2 - FY27 Financial Literacy Grant Program, a new funding opportunity designed to strengthen the financial well-being of Maui County's nonprofit organizations, small businesses, County grantees, and residents.

The program is part of OED's commitment to building a stronger Kamaʻāina economy by investing in the long-term organizational sustainability of the community organizations and businesses that serve Maui County.

Through this competitive grant opportunity, OED seeks qualified organizations to deliver financial literacy education, technical assistance, and capacity-building services that help participants strengthen financial management practices, improve long-term sustainability, and build resilience.

Eligible programs may include:

  • Financial management and budgeting
  • Cash flow and business planning
  • Bookkeeping and financial reporting
  • Grant financial management and compliance
  • Organizational sustainability and strategic financial planning
  • Access to capital and lending readiness
  • Entrepreneurship and small business financial education
  • Personal financial literacy for community members

"Financial literacy is about more than balancing a budget—it's about creating stronger organizations, stronger businesses, and stronger communities," said Mayor Richard T. Bissen, Jr. "By investing in financial education and organizational capacity, we're helping our nonprofits and small businesses build the skills they need to succeed while creating lasting benefits for the people they serve."

The Financial Literacy Grant Program supports Maui County's broader economic development strategy by strengthening the organizations that provide essential services, supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses, and equipping residents with the knowledge and tools to achieve greater financial stability.
